Color Guard & Winter Guard
The award-winning McMillen High School Color Guard are the flag and weapons performers that decorate the field with the marching band.
During the Fall season, the color guard elevates the visual aesthetics of the marching show through the use of flag work, rifle spinning, and dance choreography.
Each Spring we hold an open audition for the Fall Guard, anybody is eligible to be a member of the color guard regardless of skill knowledge. This is a great option for students who play double reed instruments (oboe and bassoon) in band.
During the Spring Semester, the color guard transitions to an extracurricular indoor sport called Winter Guard. This group is a combination of the McMillen, Williams, and Plano East color guards. Each year, the guard rehearses three times a week and performs at several contests around the DFW area.
Through an additional audition in the fall, the guards are established for the season. Anyone is eligible for auditioning, regardless of skill level. We encourage all to audition for and participate in the fall season first.
